MeetNewPlayers.com is a website designed to help you find a band, a gig or a job.
My name is Chris Cowan and in 1998 I lived in Toronto. I was playing at some of the open mic nights like Grossman's and The Artful Dodger.
It was fun but most of the players had day jobs and would never think of quitting their jobs to play music full time.
But I was interested in more so started looking at the classifieds in the NOW magazine. There was no other "real" sources of these "musician listings", so I decided to create my own directory.
MNP predates the commercial internet as it started as a "faxback" service (dialup modem on a Windows 3.1 system.. ha ha..). But the web thing certainly took off.
I got my own servers, used many different platforms and editors, setups and routines. I did tech support for major banks and internet service providers and always kept a server going in the background. I have found that MeetNewPlayers.com has always been a testbed for some new internet ideas that I have been working up and most of the influences in this website will show up on my other ones like NeverEndingPrincessStory.com or AskAuntSue.com.
I still play alot of music and will be playing some small shows this summer for sure. I'll post some pics soon.
