If
you have ever been to
the Holiday Inn to see
the bar band you have
seen midi in
action.
2
singers who are multi-instrumentalists
with the right setup
and suddenly you have
a 6 piece orchestra. |
Pay
to Play If you are
paying in public and
performing pop music while
using midi you are most
likely a professional and
should consider your
copyright issues. By
using a file, that has been
recorded, you are now
exceeding the boundaries of
"your live
interpretation of a
copyrighted work" and
should pay a fee to your
local rights organization or
you may run into issues with
bar owners.
Lady
in Red There are
commercial grade midi files
available which are matched
to your professional grade
sound module. This way
you can be sure you have a
faithful reproduction of the
horns in every lounge tune
known to man.
Usually
you have an archive on your
computer, which you then
edit into playlists for live
gigs.
 |
Suddenly
have a sax player who
what's to join
in?
No
problem; select the
song and mute the sax
or lead
track. |
To play live your need a computer
or
keyboard
with
a
floppy
disc
interface
on-site
to play these files through the PA.
A
cheap
notebook
computer
(you
don't
need
anything
powerful
to
run
most
midi
programs)
and
a good quality sound module output through a
PA
can
get
you
going
quite nicely for not alot of
$$$.
Midi is much better than tapes since it never will
slow down (no tape to stretch) and most sequencers have a "playlist" function -
you can string together midi files to make a custom set quickly and easily.
