Adult Content or No Adult Content - The webmasters dilemma
Let’s face it; the Internet was built on adult content. It’s now a "billion dollar business".

As a webmaster you have a stark choice; skin or no skin.

Notice that there are no ads on this page... It's not by accident.

If you do adult, even non-threatening mainstream you are considered a bad person. And yet this is where all the traffic and money seems to be. We say seems to be for a reason…

When was the last time you paid for a subscription for any website; let alone an adult one?  With the amount of free content available and a hearty anti-virus package, most folks can find what they want for free on the Internet. So if this is the case, how much money can you really expect “per paid signup?”

When folks come to me telling me they are "experts" in all things adult (OK, that's just creepy if I know you from somewhere else...) and describe how it would be fun to "get involved in the Adult Entertainment Business" AND be a great way to make some money!!! They get all  excited about the “niche” categories they want to "exploit" and tell me how much money they are going to make.

I remind them that this is a job; and if you want to be successful you have to do it every day. Do you really want to wake up every morning with a new folder of hardcore in your inbox?  OK, let's edit those monster members with Photoshop and upload them over coffee.  If you can do that for the next 10 years and enjoy it more power to you, otherwise find something else to write about, something you would enjoy doing or there is probably an easier way to make a buck.

Here is the other thing about entering the adult world expecting to make money:
You are typically dealing with people who would not think twice about ripping you off or stealing your content and other such chicanery. To be shocked that you never get a payment...well; life’s like that sometimes.

There are some other ways of trying to make a nickel; buying traffic (good luck with that… I would love to see “25,000 quality visitors for only $25.00”. Yeah, thanks for the bot-net attack...Maybe I should try some of your “bullet-proof hosting”.

Or you can buy galleries and try to make money off a TGP (Thumbnail Gallery Post).

Once again, think about the number of paid signups.  Lots of work, not alot of fun.

We feel that the only way to truly make money on adult content is to produce it yourself.

This may involve some time in front of the camera showing the world your hardware or the recruiting of local talent. Either way you are walking down an alley that few want to tread and most are sorry that they did.

If you are still interested in the adult world we suggest this website as a good primer; funny domain name; lots of tips and tricks.

If you DON'T do adult then you are on the other side of the fence (see White Hat).  You are considered “clean” and this can be an advantage over time if you are looking for search engine inclusion or paid advertising.
