How to publish via Push technology on port 80 to a Windows Media
Server set up for http:// streaming
Open Windows Media Encoder
Select Broadcast a live Event
Under Device Options select and configure your audio/video hardware
Under Broadcast Method select Push to
a Windows Media Server
Under Server and Publishing Point
Server Name : SERVER
IP ADDRESS/HOST NAME - SUPPLIED BY THE ISP
Publishing Point: Assigned by ISP
Copy Settings from: do not change
Do not select remove publishing point automatically
Under Encoding Options select your resolution and video settings. These are
the settings that allow you to control the size and quality of the video.
Keep in mind that bandwidth is expensive and demanding on the server; high
resolution video for thousands of people is expensive; but each situation is
different...In many cases a lower bitrate can give acceptable quality for home users
or unpaid content.
Under Archive File select at your pleasure. This saves a copy locally on your
computer. Handy if you want to burn the DVD later.
Click Finish
Click on Begin Encoding
- THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - No stream from you machine produces a "server
busy" error.
You may be prompted for a user name and password
You may see an error saying that the server cannot determine if uni or mulicast.
OK this message.
At this point the encoder should be connected to the server. To verify
your connection look under the Output: tab; if connected you will see the URL of
your publishing point. Example: mms://66.199.164.185/publishingpoint
So fine; you are connected and live on the Internet.
Now lets test it.
Start/Windows Media Player/File/Open URL
mms://YourIP/publishingpoint (example)
It should load and you will see your video live on the
Internet. Anyone worldwide can do the same.
This URL then can also be placed in a TV style box on any
webpage or open via a clickable link.
